Sidewalk from Celia Bullwinkel on Vimeo.
“Sidewalk” by Celia Bullwinkel portrays the life as a female so powerfully in just 4 minutes. I think this video shows the sad truth of how females are portrayed in their daily walks of life from childhood as a little girl to as an elderly woman. What are you thoughts on this video?
Bullwinkel shows how a simple walk down the sidewalk can feel like a lifetime public appraisal. The film’s character goes through different phases of loving and hating her body through different parts of her life, which is reflected back at her in the reactions she gets on the street — and what’s implied in their absence. “I wanted the film to resonate with women like myself, who have to work hard in order to keep a positive sense of self as they grow older,” Bullwinkel told HuffPost. “The film is also designed [for] young girls, who may not yet be aware of the journey they’re about to embark on.”
