NYC is awesome and I love it for so many reasons but it’s easy to get exhausted in this ginormous city. What makes New York even more amazing is that there’s so many places you can go just a train ride from Manhattan. NYC tourists should seriously consider checking out some of the beaches and mountains nearby. What’s even better is that you can go to most of these places via public transportation and come back to the city on the same day. How cool is that?
So I organized four of my favorite travel destinations that are mostly a train ride from Manhattan.
Montauk is easily accessible from the city by train or bus for about $20-$30 per person. It has a beautiful beach and a lighthouse and has been featured in various movies including Jim Carry’s movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
This used to be our go-to place when we wanted a quick affordable getaway from the city. It’s only an hour train ride from Penn Station which drops you off right at the beach. It can get a bit crowded in the summers but I have a lot of good memories from here which you can read more about here and here.
I love this beach and it’s one of the first beaches that my husband and I went to in NY. It’s absolutely beautiful and there’s gorgeous mansions all over the town. This is probably my favorite beach in Long Island and they have an amazing winery too!
I don’t know about the public transportation here but it’s about a 2 hour drive from Manhattan. What I love about here is that they have one of the coolest Winery where people are lounging in the hill and listening to music with children running around the hill and having a great time. There’s even several places for apple picking but make sure to go early or else all the apples will be gone!
And the best part about this area is that there’s Hot Air Balloon Rides and even airplane gliders! How awesome is this? 😀
Hot Air Balloon Rides was not cheap but it was romantic and one of those once-in-a-lifetime type of experience 😉
